Night on Lone Wolf Mountain and Other Short Stories

Night on Lone Wolf Mountain and Other Short Stories

Jack Weyland, an LDS author of many stories/novels, wrote these eight short stories centered around teenagers and experiences/challenges that they face. Those range from low self-esteem, sharing the gospel, forgiveness of sins, unity of a quorum, etc. These occur in places like the shopping mall, school, girl's camp, and in the home.

I personally feel that this collection of short stories are very inspiring. He does a great job with character development and insightful plot-lines. I think many teenagers will be able to understand the situations that Weyland's characters are put in. The stories are relate very well with real-world situations.

It is a clean book that I recommend for all teenagers and even parents/LDS leaders. I think everyone can gain insights from these stories. Overall, I give this collection a 5-star rating.

The summary from goodreads.com for this book is:
When two young women get into a quarrel at girls camp, their leaders sentence them to spend the night together away from the rest of the group. What happens to them in their solitary camp is the subject of Night on Lone Wolf Mountain. That and seven other new stories by Jack Weyland are included in this volume. Jack Weyland knows what goes on in high school and how young people feel and act and speak. He knows how it feels when young parents misjudge your friends or act as though they don't trust you. He can describe what it is like to feel picked on or left out, and how it is when your leaders get on your case for not paying attention in church. But he also remembers how it feels to be young and full of energy, excited about being with friends, going to dances and activities, playing sports, and discovering you have a testimony. This book will take you to girls camp, the shopping mall, school and church- places you know all about. But what happens there will surprise and entertain you in these fun and thought provoking stories by a favorite LDS author.

BYU Wins vs. Virginia!

Another win was achieved by BYU against Virginia this last Saturday, September 20, 2014 with a final score of 41-33. They are now ranked #20 in the nation!

By halftime, BYU was down by 3 16-13, and then in the second half the BYU offense and special teams racked up 4 touchdowns to take the win. One of the big weaknesses was that the defense couldn't tackle good enough, had personal fouls, and couldn't get Virginia off the field, so that led to Virginia keeping the game close. Taysom Hill led a good victory and BYU stayed strong amidst their struggles throughout the game. With a BYE WEEK this week, they should be able to improve their game enough (especially on defense) to win big against Utah State. Go Cougars!

BYU's next game will be October 3, 2014 vs. Utah State and will be played in Provo. It is scheduled to be at 8:15 PM MST on ESPN with the usual pre- and post-game shows on BYUtv. The BYU football team will be wearing Royal Blue jerseys for the game.

BYU Win @ Home vs. Houston!

This last Thursday, September 11, 2014, BYU played their first home game in Provo versus Houston and won 33-25.

The game against Houston was a tough one. BYU was ahead 23-0 in the first half until they committed some turnovers and Houston caught up 23-15 at halftime. BYU pulled out the win with some great playmakers in their quarterback, Taysom Hill, running back, Jamaal Williams, and defensive back, Craig Bills. It was a close, rough game, with BYU having plenty to improve on. I believe it was a tougher game because they didn't have the usual full week to prepare for it like they usually do. Plus, they just faced a physical defense of Texas. For their Virginia game next week they should be well-rested and well-prepared to have a special win. Houston did a good job keeping up with BYU.

This next week, BYU will play at home again on Saturday, September 20, 2014 against Virginia at 1:30 PM MST on either ESPN or ESPNU. It will be a "white out" game where BYU will be wearing all white. There will be a Countdown to Kickoff and Post Game show on BYUTV before and after the game respectively.

BYU Wins @ Texas!

This last Saturday, September 6, 2014, BYU football traveled to Texas and conquered with a score of 41-7.

It was a good game and win for BYU. This successful win helped boost BYU up to the #25 team in the nation. The first half was a struggle for the offense as the Texas defense kept them at bay. At the end of the first half BYU's defense kept the score 6-0 with BYU winning. Then, in the second quarter, Taysom Hill scored three touchdowns and Hine scored one to make it a 34-0 game. Texas finally got some points on the board to make it 34-7. In the last quarter, BYU sealed the deal with a touchdown to end the game 41-7. It was a great, intense game to watch and BYU fans everywhere celebrated as Taysom Hill let the team to a sweet-tasting victory. I personally feel Taysom has transformed into a true leader and can lead the team to an undefeated season. Good luck next week, Cougars! I and many other BYU fans will be supporting and cheering for you the whole way through the season!

BYU @ UCONN! Victory achieved!
