NFL Draft 2014 - BYU Players

To start off, Kyle Van Noy got drafted in the second round in pick #8 by the Detroit Lions as an outside linebacker.

Four other BYU players didn't get drafted but soon after the draft ended, they got signed on with four other teams as free agents.

Overall, I like where these players went. I'm especially happy for Kyle Van Noy. He gets to play alongside his friend from BYU's defense, Ziggy Ansah (who was drafted last year as the overall #5 pick). I'm glad all five of these guys get to go on to the NFL and make careers our of their superb football skills and talent.

These are the four other players:
Cody Hoffman,                       Wide Receiver,            Washington Redskins
Daniel Sorensen,                    Safety,                         Kansas City Chiefs
Eathyn Manumaleuna,            Defensive Tackle,        New York Giants
Spencer Hadley,                     Linebacker,                  New Orleans Saints

Here are some photos of them:

The Avengers

The Avengers, a film that proves how successful Marvel Studios is becoming with their Marvel Cinematic Universe, is centered around bringing together four different superheroes and two master assassins in order to combat an invading army brought by Loki, the adopted brother of Thor (one of the superheroes). I love this movie not only because it has sweet heroes and a good villain, but mainly because it shows how heroes who have differences between each other can come together for one purpose and save the world. It is amazing what you can achieve when you work together as a team like they do in the film. It has amazing special effects

I recommend this film to everyone...especially to those who love a good superhero movie and is fan of any of these superheroes (Iron Man/Tony Stark, Hulk/Bruce Banner, Thor, Captain America/Steve Rogers, Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff, and Hawkeye/Clint Barton). This movie also stars characters like Nick Fury, Maria Hill, and Phil Coulson.

Imdb.com has this as the film's summary

Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. assembles a team of superheroes to save the planet from Loki and his army.

This film is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action throughout, and a mild drug reference. It includes some swearing and some immodest clothing. I recommend looking at this parental guide from imdb.com.

5-Star Rating

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is the first of 4 current Pirates of the Caribbean films. It is probably my favorite. It, I think, is a great representation of the ride (which is from what I remember what Disney was trying to do), and it has some great characters. It is centered around a pirate, "Captain" Jack Sparrow. The audience finds by the end of the movie that even though he is a pirate, he can still be trusted. That's what Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan found out in the end.

I recommend this film to everyone...especially to those who love the ride at Disneyland/world and/or who love pirate films. The love story involved is also a good one.

IMDB.com's summary for the movie is:

Blacksmith Will Turner teams up with eccentric pirate "Captain" Jack Sparrow to save his love, the governor's daughter, from Jack's former pirate allies, who are now undead.

This film is rated PG-13 for action/adventure violence. It includes a few swear words, skeletons, sword/gun shooting, and immodest dresses. Here is the link to the Parent's Guide from imdb.com: Parent's Guide. I advise y'all to look at these when I put them on my movie reviews. They give a pretty good accurate description of why the movie was rated the way it was.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, the fourth installment in the Mission Impossible film franchise, is in my opinion the best of the four. It is again centered around Ethan Hunt (played by Tom Cruise) as he accepts a mission to help stop an event that will greatly effect the United States. I highly recommend this film for those who love action films. There is some sweet technology that I haven't seen in other films. I also think the plot is pretty original. This film takes you to three different countries in the world. Also I loved how the recurring characters were just as amazing as the new characters.

The IMDB.com summary of this film is:

The IMF is shut down when it's implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin, causing Ethan Hunt and his new team to go rogue to clear their organization's name.

This film was directed by Brad Bird (director of Pixar's The Incredibles), produced by J.J. Abrams (well known for producing many popular films), and stars Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye from Marvel's The Avengers), and Simon Pegg.

This film includes some swearing (not a ton), a fair amount of action and violence (as is every other Mission Impossible film in the franchise), some immodest clothing on women, and kissing. It is rated PG-13 for sequences of intense action and violence. Here is a link to the parental guide: Parental Guide. This guide is good to see in order to know why this movie is rated PG-13. It has a lot of detail that will help you know if you want to watch this movie or not. IMDB has this for most movies and shows.

Daily Insights from my Life #25

Puzzles are a Great Way to Strengthen Your Marriage

If you are trying to come up with a way to spend quality time with your spouse, one great way to do that is by putting a puzzle together. My wife and I did this last Sunday. We put together a 500-piece puzzle we have of Logan, Utah. It was great to work together on something like that, and I feel it brought us closer together.

So this post will be listed under two tabs above at the top of my blog. It will be listed under Life Insights and Pinterest Pins. The reason I would put it under Pinterest Pins is because I would want to create a pin for it on Pinterest, but I don't know right now. If any of you have an idea how I could do that, it would be great if you could let me know!

So therefore this post will also be called One of My All-Time Favorite Pins from Pinterest! #13 [Puzzles Strengthen Marriage].

BYU-Idaho Devotional
Conditioning our Hearts and Minds to Receive Personal Revelation
Brother J. D. Griffith
Managing Director, Pathway

Helaman 10:5

So this last week I went to devotional here at BYU-Idaho, and it was a talk that was really inspiring for me. I'm going to share some things from it.

Brother Griffith counseled us that each of us must stay in condition to receive personal revelation. he mentioned three specific things that we each should do in order to stay conditioned. We need to 1. Strengthen our personal worthiness, 2. Act when called upon, and 3. Submit to the will of the Lord. With personal worthiness the thing that hit the most was to not be past feeling. We musn't harden our hearts so much that like Laman and Lemuel in the Book of Mormon we are past feeling. Most of the time we will feel the Lord's words other than hearing them. Dealing with acting when called upon, I really liked what he said that we need to begin with prayer and then act. Prayer is an essential part of the conditioning process. Lastly he said that we need to faithfully submit to the will of the Lord. We can't be casual about it. We need to faithfully do it.

I really loved this talk. At first I didn't want to go, but the Spirit was telling me through feelings that I should go. I'm really happy that I did.

At the end he shared a way to recondition ourselves every day. When you write in your journal at night, document when during the day did you feel the Spirit or receive a spiritual prompting. Look for patterns in you life that reveal a closeness to the Spirit. I challenge everyone who reads this to try to do this. I will certainly strive to do it too.
